Inspiring the Next Generation Through Our Free Classroom Shrimp Program
At Errly Aquatics, we believe the aquarium hobby has the power to inspire curiosity, teach responsibility, and create a lifelong appreciation for aquatic life. That's why we're proud to offer our Free Classroom Shrimp Program for teachers.
If you're a teacher with an established aquarium in your classroom, we'd love to provide freshwater shrimp at no cost. All we ask is that you provide proof that you're a teacher and share a photo of your classroom aquarium.
Why We're Doing This
One of our biggest goals at Errly Aquatics is simple: grow the aquarium hobby by introducing it to the next generation.
Many people never have the opportunity to experience a healthy, thriving aquarium or learn what it takes to care for aquatic animals. By placing shrimp in classrooms, we hope to spark curiosity in students who may one day become hobbyists, scientists, conservationists, or simply lifelong animal lovers.
We also want to help teach something that's often overlooked, the importance of creating a suitable habitat before bringing home any living creature.
More Than Just Adding Water
One of the biggest misconceptions in fishkeeping is that you can fill a tank with water and immediately add animals. In reality, a healthy aquarium depends on a balanced biological ecosystem.
Many people have never heard of the nitrogen cycle, yet it's one of the most important concepts in the hobby. Beneficial bacteria convert harmful waste into less toxic compounds, creating an environment where aquatic life can thrive.
Learning about topics like water parameters, beneficial bacteria, filtration, and the nitrogen cycle helps students understand that caring for animals begins long before they're introduced to an aquarium. These lessons also encourage patience, observation, problem-solving, and respect for living creatures.
Why Shrimp?
Freshwater shrimp are incredible classroom animals. They're peaceful, constantly active, and always doing something interesting, from grazing on biofilm to molting and exploring every inch of the aquarium.
Students can observe natural behaviors up close while learning about ecosystems, biology, life cycles, and environmental responsibility.
They're also an excellent reminder that even the smallest animals deserve proper care and a healthy habitat.
