From Digital Marketing to Shrimp Breeding: Documenting the Journey

From Digital Marketing to Shrimp Breeding: Documenting the Journey

For most of my professional life, my world revolved around computers, websites, search engines, and digital marketing.

I’ve spent years working in IT and web development, getting a degree, building websites, managing SEO, analyzing data, troubleshooting technical problems, and helping businesses grow online. Digital marketing became my career, and eventually I found myself working in SEO full time.

Then life changed.

After years of building a career in the digital world, I unexpectedly found myself without a job. Artificial intelligence and the rapid changes happening across the digital marketing industry played a major role in that transition. Rather than simply looking for another version of the same job, I decided to take a serious look at something I had already been quietly building in the background:

Errly Aquatics.

What started as a passion for freshwater shrimp has gradually grown into a legitimate business. I've spent countless nights learning shrimp genetics, developing breeding lines, experimenting with different species, and figuring out how to produce healthy, high-quality shrimp consistently.

Now, for the first time, I'm taking the leap and making shrimp breeding my full-time focus.

A Very Different Kind of Career

There’s obviously a pretty big difference between sitting behind a computer working on SEO and spending your days maintaining aquariums, breeding shrimp, packing orders, and working with live animals.

But the transition isn't quite as strange as it might sound.

A lot of the skills I've developed over the years still apply.

Running an online business requires a website. It requires SEO, content, photography, customer service, analytics, marketing, inventory management, and a whole lot of problem solving.

The difference is that now, instead of helping someone else's business grow, I'm putting those skills into something of my own.

And instead of spending my day optimizing websites about other people's products, I'm building a business around something I genuinely enjoy.

I'm Going to Document It

One of the things I want to do with this section of the Errly Aquatics website is document the journey.

Not just the polished version.

I want to share the tanks, breeding projects, successes, failures, experiments, new shrimp lines, business decisions, convention experiences, equipment, products, and everything else that comes with trying to turn a small shrimp operation into a sustainable full-time business.

Some posts may be highly technical.

Others might just be observations from the fish room.

There may be photos, videos, breeding updates, experiments, behind-the-scenes looks at orders being packed, and honest discussions about what is and isn't working.

I also want to document the business side of it.

What does it actually take to build a shrimp breeding business from the ground up? How many shrimp can a tank realistically produce? Which projects are worth pursuing? What happens when something doesn't work? How does a small breeder compete with large importers?

I don't know all of those answers yet.

That's part of the reason I'm documenting it.

From a Job to a Business

I'm not going to pretend that leaving a traditional career to become a full-time shrimp breeder is the safest or most conventional path.

It's definitely a risk.

But it's also an opportunity to build something that belongs to me.

Errly Aquatics has already come a long way from where it started. What happens next is something I want to share publicly, not because I have everything figured out, but because I'm interested in seeing where this can go.

Maybe years from now I'll look back at these posts and laugh at how small the operation was.

Maybe I'll look back and recognize these posts as the beginning of something much bigger.

Either way, I'll have the record of the journey.

Welcome to the Journey

So, if you're interested in freshwater shrimp, breeding, genetics, aquariums, or the process of building a small specialty business from the ground up, this is where I'll be sharing it.

From digital marketer to shrimp breeder.

From working behind a computer to working in a fish room.

From building other people's businesses to building my own.

This is the next chapter of Errly Aquatics, and I'm going to document it as it happens.
