Freshwater Scuds (Amphipods) – From My Breeding Colony
Looking for one of the best natural cleanup crews for your aquarium? Freshwater Scuds (Amphipods) are hardworking detritivores that constantly graze on decaying plant matter, leftover food, biofilm, and organic waste, helping keep your aquarium clean and balanced.
Each scud comes from my established breeding colony and is carefully raised in healthy, planted aquariums. Whether you're looking for a cleanup crew, live food culture, or a thriving microfauna population, these freshwater amphipods are an excellent addition to many freshwater aquariums.
At Errly Aquatics, I stand behind every animal I sell. My goal isn't just to ship scuds, it's to help hobbyists build healthy, thriving aquariums.

💧 Acclimation Recommendation
Freshwater scuds are hardy and adapt well to most established aquariums.
- Float the bag for 15–20 minutes to equalize temperature.
- Slowly add small amounts of aquarium water to the bag over the next 20–30 minutes.
- Gently transfer the scuds into your aquarium.
If your aquarium's water parameters differ significantly from ours, a slow drip acclimation for 30–60 minutes is recommended.
🌿 Good to Know
Scuds reproduce readily in established aquariums and are an excellent live food source for many fish species. While they make an effective cleanup crew, most shrimp keepers choose not to keep scuds in dedicated shrimp-only tanks, as they can compete with shrimp for food and reproduce quickly.
Scuds are best suited for community aquariums, fish tanks, live food cultures, or planted setups where their cleanup abilities and natural behavior can be fully appreciated.
